Texas Eastern Transmission (Texas Eastern) is seeking Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) authorization to abandon certain facilities and to construct, install, own, operate, and maintain the proposed Appalachia to Market II project and the proposed Armagh and Entriken Compressor Station Horsepower Replacement project. The proposed facilities are in Lebanon, Indiana, and Huntingdon counties in Pennsylvania. The purpose of the Appalachia to Market II project is to provide up to 55,000 dekatherms per day of additional firm natural gas transportation service from the Appalachia supply basin in Southwest Pennsylvania to existing local distribution company customers in New Jersey. The purpose of the Armagh and Entriken Compressor Station Horsepower Replacement project is to improve reliability on the Texas Eastern system by replacing a 1950s era gas-driven compressor unit with an electric motor-driven (EMD) compressor unit at each of two compressor stations.
The Appalachia to Market II project consists of adjustments to the Line 28 Pipeline Loop in Lebanon County. Texas Eastern will install approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) of 36-in. (0.9-m) looping pipeline adjacent to Texas Eastern’s existing Lines 12, 19, and 27 pipelines beginning at existing Line 28. At the western terminus of the Line 28 Loop, an existing receiver and valve site will be abandoned and removed, and at the eastern terminus a new receiver, valve, and crossover site will be constructed.
The Armagh and Entriken Compressor Station Horsepower Replacement project consists of adjustments to both the Armagh and Entriken Compressor Stations.
Armagh Compressor Station:
Located in Indiana County, Texas Eastern will install a 27,000-hp (20,142-kW) centrifugal EMD compressor unit, gas coolers, filter separators, source control facilities, associated buildings, and piping at the existing compressor station to replace an existing 22,000-hp (16,412-kW) General Electric Frame 5 gas-driven turbine compressor unit, which will be abandoned and removed. The other compressor unit at the station, an 18,000-hp (13,428-kW) Solar Titan 130, will remain in operation. Additionally, a new electric substation will be constructed to provide power to the new EMD compressor. The proposed Armagh Compressor Station Modifications will increase the station’s total horsepower by 5000 hp (3730 kW).
Entriken Compressor Station:
Located in Huntingdon County, Texas Eastern will install a 24,000-hp (17,904-kW) centrifugal EMD compressor unit, gas coolers, filter separators, associated buildings, and piping at the existing compressor station to replace an existing 22,000-hp GE Frame 5 gas-driven turbine compressor unit, which will be abandoned and removed. The other compressor unit at the station, a 26,000-hp (19,396-kW) Solar Titan 250, will remain in operation. Additionally, a new electric substation will be constructed to provide power to the new EMD compressor unit, and a new 1289-kW emergency generator will replace an existing 620-kW generator. The proposed Entriken Compressor Station Modifications will increase the station’s total horsepower by 2000 hp (1492 kW).
