Anaergia Inc. has entered a contract with Capwatt Biomethane Unipessoal Lda (Capwatt) to design and construct Metanext, a biogas plant in central Italy. Expected to begin operation in June 2026, Metanext will produce 7.6 million cubic meters of high-quality biomethane annually from agro-industry waste.
This contract follows the binding letter of intent (LOI) with Capwatt on April 21, 2025, for a total of nine projects expected to be completed over 30 months (see “Nine RNG Plants For Europe,” May 1, 2025, www.gascompressionmagazine.com). Anaergia will oversee the design of each facility, incorporating advanced processes and proprietary systems such as anaerobic digesters, significantly enhancing Europe’s green energy infrastructure and accelerating biomethane production. The Metanext project represents the first of these nine projects.
