EnviTec Biogas is breaking new ground in Southeast Asia with its first biogas project in the Philippines. The German-based company has signed a contract with First Quezon Biogas Corporation (FQBC) to complete a 1.4 MW biogas facility in Candelaria, Quezon Province. The plant, owned by an agricultural cooperative of 14 poultry farmers, will begin feeding renewable electricity into the grid of Meralco, the country’s largest power utility, starting June 2026.

“This contract is a major breakthrough for us,” said Thomas Wagner, head of EnviTec’s Southeast Asia office in Jakarta. “It’s our first reference plant in the Philippines, and it showcases our expertise in processing poultry manure. We’re already seeing strong interest in follow-up projects.”

The project was first initiated in 2018 but faced delays due to changes in investment structure. With a new investor group now on board, construction is back on track. Existing infrastructure — including two fermenters (5250 m³ each), a biogas engine, transformer, clamp silo, digestate lagoon, and intake hall — has been inspected and approved for completion. Installation of fermenter internals, pumps, digestate treatment, and plant control systems will begin in early 2026.

Expansion plans are already under discussion, including scaling capacity and replicating the model in other regions.
