Menzel Elektromotoren GmbH (Menzel) has enhanced its in-house testing capabilities to include load tests on electric motors installed in a vertical position. This advancement allows the company to simulate real-world conditions for motors used in pumps, compressors, and other industrial applications.
The new setup utilizes a right-angle gearbox with multiple flange options, accommodating vertical motors of various sizes. Menzel conducts tests on its own motors and generators, as well as offering manufacturer-independent external testing at its Hennigsdorf, Germany, facility near Berlin. The plant features two large test stands and indoor cranes capable of handling drive units up to 80 tons.
Services include routine, type, and system tests in accordance with international standards for voltages from 3 to 13.8 kV. Machines up to 1800 kW and 2300 kVA can undergo load testing, and heat run tests are available using the equivalent load method per IEC60034-29. Certified technicians perform all measurements and inspections under EN 60034, providing full documentation and meeting requirements of global acceptance organizations.
Founded in 1927, Menzel offers high and low voltage motors, DC motors, transformers, and frequency inverters. Services include motor production up to and beyond 25 MW and short-term adaptation of stock motors to application-specific requirements. Menzel maintains a large inventory with over 20,000 motors up to 15 MW. The company operates subsidiaries in Sweden, the UK, France, and Italy and works with numerous partners worldwide.
