Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group (Nikkiso CE&IG) has delivered the centralized CO2 purification and liquefaction system that serves as the final processing stage for all captured CO2 produced at Deep Sky Alpha, a carbon removal innovation and commercialization center located in Innisfail, Alberta, Canada’.

A cross-technology direct air capture (DAC) platform, Deep Sky Alpha captures CO2 directly from the atmosphere, purifies and liquefies it, and permanently stores it underground. Powered by solar energy, Deep Sky Alpha is designed as a technology-agnostic commercialization hub. The site can host up to 10 DAC systems operating under real-world conditions, allowing multiple capture approaches to be evaluated side by side. The facility is designed to remove up to 3000 tons of CO2 per year, helping operationalize, commercialize and advance scalable, low-energy carbon removal technologies.

The Nikkiso CE&IG system is comprised of integrated compressors, filtration, piping, control cabinets, and automation. This system processes the combined output from all DAC units at the facility and is designed to accommodate future DAC technologies as they are added, enabling safe handling, liquefaction, and permanent storage of CO2 at scale.

The CO2 collected at Deep Sky Alpha will be transported to an existing well at the Meadowbrook Carbon Storage Hub facility north of Edmonton, Canada, in Sturgeon County.
