Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America LLC (Natural) has filed an application with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requesting authorization for its Texas-Arkansas Power Project. The project involves the construction and operation of new and modified facilities at Compressor Station 308 (CS 308) on Natural’s Gulf Coast Mainline system and the abandonment in place of nine existing compressor units at the compressor station.

The project will create additional capacity on Natural’s Gulf Coast Mainline from CS 308 in a southbound direction that will allow Natural to provide a total of 400,000 dekatherms per day of firm transportation service to Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) along Natural’s Gulf Coast Mainline System.

AECC is an Arkansas based generation and transmission company that requires this capacity to serve new and existing natural gas-fired power generation facilities in Texas and Arkansas. For this reason, AECC has entered into a binding precedent agreement with Natural for firm transportation service from various existing receipt points located in Natural’s Texok and Iowa-Illinois Receipt Zones to existing and new delivery points located in Natural’s Market and Texok Delivery Zones.

Natural proposes to install two new Solar Turbines Titan 130 centrifugal gas turbine compressor units at CS 308, each rated 20,482 hp (15,279 kW) and abandon in place the existing nine integral reciprocating compressor units, which have a combined rating of 30,850 hp (23,014 kW). This will result in total horsepower at the compressor station of 40,964 hp (30,559 kW). The addition of new, more efficient compressor units, along with modified piping at CS 308, will make the compressor station bidirectional and allow for additional southbound flow on the Gulf Coast Mainline.

The cost of the project is approximately US$125 million.
