Nord Gas Solutions (Nord Gas) has secured a contract for a 35-ton-per-day biogas liquefaction plant in Poland. The project is expected to become Poland’s first bio liquefied natural gas (bioLNG) production plant.
The facility will convert biogas into bioLNG using Nord Gas Solutions’ Puregas CA75 LBG and Puregas MR35 technologies.
Nord Gas’ Puregas CA technology recovers over 99.9% of the biomethane present in raw biogas by separating CO2 from the biogas through chemical adsorption. According to Nord Gas, the selective organic solvents used are so efficient that the product gas also is highly suitable for direct injection into the gas grid without any enrichments.
The mixed refrigerant (MR) liquefaction process creates bioLNG as it is produced subcooled at -256⁰F (-160⁰C) and can therefore be used as transport fuel and use the same infrastructure as fossil LNG. BioLNG from Nord Gas Solutions MR liquefaction process can be seamlessly mixed with, or fully replace, fossil LNG.
Developed as a brownfield conversion project, the plant will utilize existing biogas production infrastructure to enable renewable fuel production.
The plant will process manure-based biogas into low-carbon-intensity bioLNG, contributing to reduced emissions in the transport sector while creating additional value from agricultural residues.
According to Nord Gas, a significant share of the bioLNG produced by the facility is expected to be supplied to the transport market, where demand for low-carbon fuels continues to increase.
“This project highlights the role bioLNG can play in supporting the energy transition while creating value from agricultural resources,” said Magnus Folkelid, sales manager, Biogas, at Nord Gas Solutions. “We are pleased to contribute to the establishment of bioLNG production capacity in Poland and to support the continued development of the country’s biomethane sector.”
