Everllence will supply a PARSYN synthesis gas compressor train for AM Green’s green ammonia project in Kakinada, India, marking the first commercial deployment of the company’s PARSYN compressor train concept for green ammonia production.
AM Green is transforming its existing natural gas-based ammonia and urea complex into a large-scale green ammonia facility. The Everllence compressor train will serve one of the plant’s production units, which is designed to produce 1500 tonnes of green ammonia per day, equivalent to approximately 525,000 tonnes annually. Phase 1 of the Kakinada project will have a total production capacity of 1 MTPA of green ammonia.
The project is strategically positioned to supply international markets. AM Green has signed a long-term offtake agreement with Uniper in Germany for up to 500,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia annually, with first deliveries from Kakinada expected as early as 2028. In addition, AM Green was selected as the sole winner of the Asian lot in the H2Global auction administered by HINT.CO GmbH (Hintco). The award secures a long-term agreement to supply Germany with Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin ammonia from Phase 2 of the Kakinada project, with first deliveries anticipated in 2029.
“The Kakinada project represents a major step forward in scaling green ammonia production in India,” said Sunil Sharma, sales manager, India, at Everllence. “By repurposing existing ammonia infrastructure to operate with renewable hydrogen, AM Green is demonstrating how established industrial assets can be adapted to support a lower-carbon production pathway.”
Ammonia is produced by combining hydrogen and nitrogen at elevated pressures. A synthesis gas compressor increases the pressure of this gas mixture before it enters the ammonia synthesis loop. In conventional ammonia plants, this compressor is typically driven by a steam turbine, utilizing steam generated during hydrogen production from natural gas. Because green ammonia production generates significantly less process steam, the PARSYN train supplied to Kakinada will be powered by an electric motor.
PARSYN, short for Parallel Syngas Compressor, features two compressors arranged in parallel and connected through a common gearbox. This configuration enables each compressor to operate at its optimal speed while reducing the overall footprint of the train and improving accessibility for maintenance.
“PARSYN is more than a compressor selection,” said Markus Schürmann, senior sales and development manager, green ammonia, at Everllence. “We approached the challenge at the train level, optimizing how all components interact within a green ammonia plant. While the concept is new to ammonia production, it builds on decades of experience designing compressor and machinery trains for demanding industrial applications. By operating two compressors in parallel and tailoring each to its specific duty, we can achieve a more compact, efficient solution that helps reduce both capital investment and operating energy consumption.”
The scope of supply includes two barrel-type RB compressors, an electric motor, gearbox, dry gas sealing system, coolers, lubrication system, control systems, instrumentation, performance testing, dynamic simulation, and process piping engineering.
The PARSYN concept and overall train process were developed by Everllence in Oberhausen, Germany. The RB compressors will be manufactured and performance-tested in Zurich, Switzerland, while packaging and integration will be carried out in Oberhausen. Delivery is scheduled for late 2027, with commissioning planned for 2028.
