LNG Canada has awarded TR Canada E&C, the Canadian subsidiary of Técnicas Reunidas, an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) contract for Phase 2 of the Coastal GasLink pipeline expansion in British Columbia. The award follows LNG Canada’s recent Phase 2 final investment decision, advancing what is being positioned as the next stage of one of Canada’s most significant energy infrastructure developments (see Canada Expands LNG Footprint, Gas Compression Magazine).

The Phase 2 expansion will be executed through an integrated delivery model in which LNG Canada will serve as execution manager, while Técnicas Reunidas provides EPCM services. Coastal GasLink will remain the owner, operator, and permit holder for the pipeline system and associated facilities.

The project includes the construction of five additional compressor stations along the 416-mile (670-km) pipeline corridor, together with upgrades and modifications to existing and previously planned facilities. The additional compression capacity will be critical to supporting increased natural gas throughput to the LNG Canada export terminal in Kitimat as the facility expands beyond its initial development phase.

The contract represents a continuation of Técnicas Reunidas’ involvement in the project. The engineering firm has supported Coastal GasLink and LNG Canada through multiple stages of development, including consulting, engineering, and front-end engineering and design activities.

Under the newly awarded scope, Técnicas Reunidas will provide detailed engineering, procurement and construction management services over an execution period expected to exceed four years. The contract is valued at more than €200 million, making it one of the company’s largest recent services awards and a significant addition to its North American portfolio.

Técnicas Reunidas has maintained a presence in Canada since 2012, operating a permanent office in Calgary and supporting more than 20 technical studies and EPC projects for energy-sector clients across the country.

Beyond the Coastal GasLink award, the company has recently expanded its Canadian footprint through a separate EPC contract for a power-generation facility intended to supply electricity to a major Meta data center and artificial intelligence hub. The project reflects a broader trend across North America, where demand growth from digital infrastructure is driving new investments in both power generation and natural gas transmission.
