Eni has launched startup activities for the Meleiha Phase 2 project in Egypt’s Western Desert, marking another step in the country’s effort to increase domestic gas production through infrastructure-driven development. The project is being executed by Agiba Petroleum Co., the joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp.
The project includes a new gas processing facility designed to handle up to 100 MMscf/d (2.8 x 106 m3/d) of natural gas. The plant is intended to serve as the hub for production from the Merged Meleiha concession, providing additional processing capacity for gas volumes from both existing and newly developed fields across the area.
The project extends beyond processing infrastructure and includes a fully integrated production and transportation system. New development wells will feed a network of gathering lines and trunklines that transport gas to the central processing facility. A dedicated export pipeline will then connect processed gas to Egypt’s existing gas transmission network, allowing new production to reach market more efficiently.
Once fully operational, the facility is expected to support increased gas availability for Egypt’s domestic market while strengthening the Western Desert’s position as one of the country’s most active hydrocarbon provinces.
