MHI Turbomachinery For Ust-Luga LNG Export Plant

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) will supply two main refrigeration gas compression trains for the Ust-Luga LNG Project in Russia. The contract, awarded to MHI by Linde Engineering, consists of high efficiency dual shaft 120 MW H-100 gas turbines and centrifugal compressors.

The liquefaction plant will be located near the Baltic seaport of Ust-Luga and will utilize natural gas gathered from domestic sources via Russia’s Unified Gas Supply System.

The first train of the complex is expected to begin operation in Q4 2023. The second train will begin operation in Q4 2024.

“We are pleased to supply MHI’s H-100 driven compressor trains for this prestigious Ust-Luga LNG plant,” said MHI President and CEO Seiji Izumisawa. “This project will showcase the benefits of MHI’s LNG solution in terms of lower production costs, increased productivity, reduced complexity, and lower lifecycle costs, while significantly reducing plant emissions.”

When completed, the complex will have the largest capacity in Russia in terms of gas processing and will be the largest in northwestern Europe in terms of liquefied natural (LNG) gas production. Each year, it will process 45 billion cubic meters of gas and produce 13 million tons of LNG, up to 3.8 million tons of ethane fraction, up to 2.4 million tons of LPG, and 0.2 million tons of pentane-hexane fraction. The gas remaining after the processing (about 19 billion cubic meters) will go into Gazprom’s gas transmission system.
