Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company LLC (Transco) is seeking Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval for its Southside Reliability Enhancement project. Transco proposes to construct the new Compressor Station 168 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia; install one new 16,000-hp (11,936-kW) compressor and related modifications at the existing Compressor Station 166 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia; and make modifications to facilitate flow reversal at the existing Compressor Station 155 in Davidson County, North Carolina.
The purpose of this project is to enable Transco to provide an additional 423,400 Dth/day of firm transportation service beginning with the 2024/2025 winter heating season.
Compressor Station 168 will include one 30,500-hp (22,753-kW) electric motor-driven (EMD) compressor unit driving a Solar centrifugal gas compressor.
Compressor Station 166 is currently equipped with four Solar Taurus 70S turbine-driven compressor units, although only three of the four units typically operate during full-load operation. Transco is planning to install one additional 16,000-hp EMD compressor driving a Solar centrifugal gas compressor to increase the existing certificated compressor station horsepower from 43,660 to 59,660 hp (32,570 to 44,506 kW).
