Transwestern Pipeline Company (Transwestern) is seeking Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to abandon in place the Crawford Compressor Station (CS) in Eddy County, New Mexico, and Monument CS in Lea County, New Mexico. Both facilities currently consist of two 2200-hp (1641-kW) Solar Turbine natural gas compressor units, along with yard and station piping.
Due to changes in natural gas supply and market demand, the Crawford CS has not been used to provide natural gas transportation service to Transwestern’s customers since 2016 and is no longer being used as part of Transwestern’s natural gas system. Monument CS has not been used since 2001. All the natural gas received near both Crawford CS and Monument CS is at sufficient pressure to bypass the station and flow directly into Transwestern’s West Texas Lateral.
As evidenced by their limited use, Transwestern has determined that the compressor units will not be needed in the future. The proposed abandonment will eliminate the need to maintain facilities that are not necessary for transportation of natural gas on Transwestern’s system. All equipment, facilities, and structures at both the Crawford CS and Monument CS will remain on site and will be made available as replacement parts at other locations on Transwestern’s pipeline system.
