ANR Pipeline Co. (ANR) is requesting US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) authorization to construct and operate one new compressor unit located at ANR’s Joliet Compressor Station in Will County, Illinois, to increase the delivery capability of its existing Youngs Road interconnect. Known as the Youngs Road Interconnect Project, ANR proposes to install one 1900 hp Caterpillar 3606/Ariel KBK-4 compressor, associated buildings, and ancillary equipment.
The purpose of the project is to enable ANR to deliver additional natural gas at required pressures to Northern Border Pipeline Company (Northern Border) at its existing Youngs Road interconnection, located within the Joliet Compressor Station. The compression is necessary to enable ANR to increase the delivery capability of its existing Youngs Road interconnect by an additional 75 MMcf/d of natural gas into the Northern Border pipeline, while also maintaining the existing operational capabilities of the Youngs Road interconnect.
ANR notes that the new compressor unit will not provide mainline compression, nor will it impact ANR’s overall mainline capacity. Rather, the additional compression is a booster unit that is necessary to ensure that adequate delivery pressure is available.
