Woodside Energy’s (Woodside) Beaumont New Ammonia (BNA) facility has produced first ammonia following the completion of systems testing, representing the first phase of operations commissioning of the facility. Located in Beaumont, Texas, commercial production of ammonia from BNA is expected to begin in early 2026. Production of lower-carbon ammonia is targeted to start in the second half of 2026.

Woodside has also finalized agreements with global customers to supply significant volumes of conventional ammonia from the BNA facility. Deliveries will commence in 2026 and continue through year-end, under contracts that reflect prevailing market prices. Additional agreements are being advanced to align with expected BNA output, including for lower carbon ammonia.

BNA has a production capacity of 1.1 MTPA and is designed to support growing demand for ammonia, lower-carbon ammonia, and hydrogen-adjacent products. Demand for lower-carbon ammonia continues to develop globally, with strong interest from customers in Europe and Asia as they pursue energy security and decarbonization objectives.

In September, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor International Corp. (MCO-I) delivered syngas and ammonia refrigeration compressor trains. MCO-I’s scope of supply included two API 617 compressors and a double-ended synchronous motor for the syngas train, as well as an API 617 compressor train driven by an API 612 steam turbine for the ammonia refrigeration service (see “Mitsubishi Compressors For Texas Ammonia Project,” September 25, 2025).
