Following the successful completion of an initial five-year long-term service agreement (LTSA), Burckhardt Compression has secured a contract renewal with a global liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier operator. The renewed agreement covers a fleet of nine LNG carriers equipped with 13 compressors that play a critical role in fuel gas supply and boil-off gas (BOG) management.
According to Burckhardt Compression, during the first term of the agreement, the fleet achieved compressor availability exceeding 97%.
At the heart of the renewed agreement is Burckhardt Compression’s fleet-wide maintenance program for the operator’s Laby-GI compressors. Designed specifically for LNG applications, the compressors are responsible for managing natural gas within the vessel’s fuel gas and BOG systems. The units operate with suction pressures of approximately 15.37 psi (1.06 bar) and discharge pressures reaching 4438 psi (306 bar).
The renewed LTSA builds on a service framework developed during the initial contract period. Burckhardt Compression will continue to provide scheduled maintenance, condition monitoring, spare parts management, and fleet performance oversight.
A key component of the service strategy is condition monitoring through Burckhardt Compression’s Prognost-NT system. The technology enables predictive maintenance by continuously monitoring compressor performance and identifying potential issues before they develop into operational problems. Weekly data evaluations provide ongoing visibility into asset condition and allow maintenance activities to be planned proactively.
This predictive approach is further supported by spare parts planning. Components are supplied and delivered to vessels ahead of scheduled interventions, ensuring that maintenance work can be completed efficiently and without delays. The result is reduced downtime and improved maintenance execution, whether vessels are in transit or undergoing planned dry-dock overhauls.
