Texas Eastern Transmission LP (Texas Eastern) plans to replace 14 Cooper Bessemer compressor units with three Solar gas turbines at its Kosciusko Compressor Station (CS) in Attala County, Mississippi. Total horsepower for the existing reciprocating compressors is 35,000 hp (26,110 kW). Total hp for the incoming Solar Turbines compressor units is 42,720 hp (31,869 kW).

The US$225.9 million project is designed to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the Kosciusko CS while meeting all currently applicable air emissions requirements. It does not involve any change in design capacity for Texas Eastern’s system.

Kosciusko CS currently operates five Cooper Bessemer GMW series and nine Cooper Bessemer GMWA series compressor units and one Solar Turbines electric-motor driven compressor package. The existing reciprocating units were installed in the 1950s and 1960s. The Cooper Bessember units and related facilities will be replaced with one 20,500 hp (19,023 kW) Solar Titan 130 unit and two 11,110 hp (8288 kW) Solar Taurus 70 units.

According to Texas Eastern, the original reciprocating units are outdated, require frequent maintenance, and require parts that are difficult to source. The current compressor units, according to Texas Eastern, are less efficient, generate more noise, and have greater air emissions than modern units.

Texas Eastern plant to install the new compressor units within the station’s existing fence line while the existing units continue to operate. After tie-ins to the new compressor units are completed, Texas Eastern will abandon and remove the existing reciprocating units. Texas Eastern hopes to begin construction activities by February 2027 and anticipates 19 months for completion.
