JGC Corp., in partnership with Fluor Corp., has announced the successful completion and handover of Train 2 of the LNG Canada Project. This milestone marks the conclusion of the first phase of Canada’s inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) mega-project, located in Kitimat, British Columbia.

The LNG Canada facility is designed to export Canadian natural gas to global markets and includes a comprehensive range of infrastructure: a natural gas receiving and liquefaction plant, a marine terminal capable of accommodating LNG carriers, LNG loading lines, processing units, storage tanks, a rail yard, a water treatment facility, and flare stacks. The site also features a tugboat dock to support marine operations. Positioned on Canada’s west coast, the facility benefits from an ice-free harbor and proximity to abundant natural gas resources.

With a production capacity of up to 14 MTPA of LNG, the plant represents a significant step forward for Canada’s energy sector. The project has emphasized environmental performance, Indigenous engagement, and economic development throughout its development.

LNG Canada is operated by LNG Canada Development Inc. and is a joint venture among five major energy companies: Shell plc (40%), PETRONAS (25%), PetroChina Company Limited (15%), Mitsubishi Corporation (15%), and Korea Gas Corporation (5%).

“The completion of Train 2 marks a significant milestone not only for LNG Canada but also for the global energy industry. As a partner in this landmark project, we are proud to contribute to delivering Canadian natural gas to international markets in a safe, sustainable, and responsible manner,” said Masayuki Sato, representative director, chair, president, and chief executive officer of JGC Holdings. “This achievement underscores our commitment to excellence, collaboration, and advancing the energy transition for a better future.”

Looking ahead, JGC Corp. and Fluor Corp. are engaged in front end engineering and design update services for a potential second phase of expansion. According to Sato, the companies “will continue to contribute to its realization,” signaling ongoing development opportunities for Canada’s LNG sector.
