Global energy technology company SLB has announced that its OneSubsea joint venture has entered into an agreement to acquire Norway-based Envirex Group AS (Envirex). Upon completion of the transaction, Envirex and its subsea operations will be integrated into OneSubsea.
Headquartered in Oslo and Houston, OneSubsea delivers complete subsea systems including compressors, motors, controls, and subsea infrastructure that are used to increase reservoir recovery, extend field life, and reduce reliance on topside processing. The acquisition is expected to strengthen OneSubsea’s portfolio by incorporating Envirex’s specialized subsea technologies and strong research and development (R&D) capabilities.
Envirex brings subsea engineering and technology expertise that is largely focused on modular system design, rapid development cycles, and niche subsea tooling—capabilities that complement OneSubsea’s large-scale production systems. Its offerings span the full project lifecycle, from early-stage concept development through detailed engineering, manufacturing, testing, and delivery.
From a technology perspective, Envirex’s portfolio enhances OneSubsea’s capabilities across several key areas, including subsea control systems, electronics, hydraulics, and intelligent control software. The company also provides ROV tooling and intervention equipment used for installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities. Through its group companies, Envirex has developed additional expertise in subsea lifting and handling systems, robotic technologies, and pipeline commissioning solutions, all of which align closely with OneSubsea’s lifecycle-focused subsea strategy.
Envirex also contributes specialized subsea pumping, testing, and commissioning technologies, particularly through companies focused on simplifying and decentralizing operations that have traditionally been performed topside. According to the company, these solutions are designed to reduce offshore complexity, improve operational efficiency, and shorten project schedules—capabilities that are increasingly important as subsea developments move into deeper water and more remote locations.
Equally significant is Envirex’s R&D culture. SLB has identified Envirex’s R&D strengths as a key driver behind the acquisition, noting that integrating Envirex’s engineering talent and development processes is expected to accelerate the deployment of new subsea technologies across OneSubsea’s portfolio. This is particularly relevant as operators seek faster qualification of next-generation subsea solutions and more flexible system architectures.
In practical terms, the acquisition enhances OneSubsea’s ability to deliver modular, scalable, and application-specific subsea solutions, especially for brownfield modifications, subsea intervention, commissioning, and emerging energy-transition use cases. By combining Envirex’s agile engineering approach with OneSubsea’s global manufacturing, installation, and service footprint, SLB aims to shorten development cycles while expanding the breadth of technologies offered by the joint venture.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. OneSubsea is a joint venture backed by SLB and Aker Solutions and employs approximately 10,000 people worldwide. It provides subsea production systems and related services covering engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operations. Its core capabilities include subsea trees, manifolds, control systems, processing, and intervention support, with a strong focus on subsea compression.
