Venture Global CP2 LNG (CP2 LNG) and Venture Global CP Express (CP Express) have jointly requested authorization for the CP2 LNG Expansion Project. The companies want to site, construct, own, operate, and maintain additional liquefaction and export capacity at the existing CP2 LNG terminal, which is currently under development along the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.
At the core of the expansion are six new liquefaction blocks, which together will provide up to 11.7 MTPA of incremental LNG production capacity. Each liquefaction block will include single mixed refrigerant units, centrifugal compressors driven by electric motors, refrigerant separation vessels, cold boxes, air-cooled exchangers, and heavy hydrocarbon removal systems. These additions mirror the configuration of the previously authorized facilities, ensuring design and operational consistency across the terminal.
Supporting infrastructure will include new pretreatment systems designed to condition incoming natural gas prior to liquefaction. These systems will remove contaminants such as mercury, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, water, and heavy hydrocarbons. The project also incorporates nitrogen rejection units and LNG expanders to manage gas composition and optimize product quality.
Vapor management systems will play a key role in operational efficiency. The expansion includes installation of multiple electric-driven boil-off gas compressors that will capture vapors generated from storage tanks, pipelines, and ship loading operations. These recovered gases will be repurposed as fuel for the facility’s power generation systems, improving overall energy utilization.
To supply the additional feed gas required for expanded LNG production, CP Express plans to enhance its existing pipeline system spanning Texas and Louisiana with the addition of the Silsbee Compressor Station in Jasper County, Texas.
The station will feature five natural gas-fired compressor units, each rated at 45,400 hp (33,868 kW), for a total installed capacity of 227,000 hp (169,342 kW). Designed to increase system pressure from approximately 1440 psig (99 bar) to 2100 psig (144 bar), the station will enable the transport of an additional 1.9 million dekatherms per day of firm gas supply to the CP2 LNG terminal.
The compressor station will connect to the main CP Express pipeline. The expanded system will maintain a delivery pressure of about 1230 psig (84 bar) at the terminal inlet while operating at a maximum allowable pressure of 2100 psig south of the compressor station.
