Texas Eastern Transmission (Texas Eastern) has received a favorable environmental assessment from the Federal Environmental Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its Perulack Compressor Units Replacement project. The project involves abandoning the four existing compressor units and related facilities at the Perulack Compressor Station (Perulack CS), located in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and replacing them with two new compressor units.

The Perulack CS currently consists of four centrifugal gas turbine units, including one 19,800-hp (14,771-kW) GE Frame 5 gas turbine unit installed in 1969 and three 5000-hp (3730-kW) Clark DC 900 gas turbine units installed in 1984 and 1985, with a total station certificated horsepower of 34,800 hp (25,961 kW). These four existing units and related facilities will be replaced with two new 18,100-hp (13,503-kW) Solar Titan 130 units and associated facilities.

The purpose of this project is to comply with air emissions reduction requirements in Pennsylvania. Software controls will be installed on the two new units to limit the horsepower of each unit to 17,000 hp (12,682 kW), so the total horsepower of the Perulack CS and delivery capacity on Texas Eastern’s system will stay substantially the same.

The two new turbines will be installed with Solar’s SoLoNOX dry low emissions technology for the control of NOx and equipped with oxidation catalysts for the control of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, and organic hazardous air pollutants. Texas Eastern plans to shut down and remove a 486-hp (363-kW) Waukesha L-3711 natural gas-fired emergency generator and install a new Waukesha VGF-H24GL emergency generator with a power output rating of 585 hp (436 kW).
