Keith Schafer has joined Sloan Lubrication Systems (Sloan) as a contract consultant for pipeline scale lubrication system optimization. Schafer has 44 years of experience in pipeline operations and direct, operator-side experience. Recently retired from TC Energy, Schafer worked as the company’s reciprocating principal for 530 engines and compressors where he was instrumental in the implementation of Sloan’s TriCip lubrication system on 135 compressors across TC Energy’s Columbia Gas system.
In addition to his work at TC Energy, Schafer has been on the Gas Machinery Conference planning committee for 14 years and involved in the GMRC Analyzer Workshop. He served as chair of the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable from 2019 through 2021, and currently serves on the KSU, NGML Advisory Board and on the PRCI Compressor and Pump Committee.
As a contract consultant at Black Rock Resources, Schafer will work with Sloan and end users on future large scale TriCip projects.
TriCip combines a lubrication system with proprietary lubricant and IIOT monitoring and control for fully automated delivery. According to Sloan, TriCip reduces lube-oil carryover which causes pipeline contamination, fouled filters, metering station contamination, excess pigging, and waste. It can also index lubrication rates to BMEP on 2 cycle lean-burn engines which prevents carbon build-up, catalyst fouling, and excess emissions.
