Additional Cat/Ariel Compression For Bridgeville Compressor Station

Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company (Eastern Shore) is seeking Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to install an additional compressor unit and appurtenant facilities at Eastern Shore’s existing compressor station in Sussex County, Delaware, as part of its Southern Expansion project. The purpose of the project is to enable Eastern Shore to provide additional firm natural gas transportation service to an existing shipper on Eastern Shore’s pipeline system.

To accommodate the additional firm natural gas transportation requested by the existing shipper, Eastern Shore will add new compression at its existing Bridgeville Compressor Station (CS). The compressor will be an 1875-hp (1399-kW) Caterpillar 3606 4-stroke, lean-burn reciprocating internal combustion engine coupled with an Ariel JGC/4 reciprocating gas compressor frame and pipeline cylinders. The engine will be equipped with Caterpillar’s Advanced Digital Engine Management. The unit will also be equipped with an exhaust silencer and an oxidation catalyst to reduce air emissions. The project will also include the installation of air intake and start gas silencers, air-cooled heat exchangers for the discharge gas and engine jacket water/auxiliary water, along with all associated piping components. The new compressor unit will be installed in an existing compressor unit building.

The Bridgeville CS currently contains three compressor units: two 600-hp (448-kW) Caterpillar 399 standby units and one full-time 1775-hp (1324-kW) Caterpillar 3606 unit. Eastern Shore proposes to operate the two Caterpillar 3606 units full time and the Caterpillar 399s will continue to be available on a standby basis.
