Xebec Systems USA LLC, a subsidiary of Xebec Adsorption Inc. (Xebec), has signed a US$113.5 million contract with Iowa-based SCS Carbon Removal LLC, a subsidiary of Summit Carbon Solutions (Summit). The contract is for 51 CO2 reciprocating compression packages that will be used for Summit’s proposed carbon capture and sequestration project.
Announced in early 2021, Summit has created partnerships with more than 30 facilities across a five-state region — Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Utilizing proven technology, Summit will capture carbon dioxide from the fermentation process of biorefineries such as ethanol plants, compress the captured CO2, and transport it through a pipeline to North Dakota where it will be permanently and stored underground. When fully developed, the project will be capable of capturing and permanently storing 12 million tons of carbon dioxide every year.
“We are pleased to be a key supplier to Summit Carbon Solutions’ project for decarbonization,” said Jim Vounassis, president and CEO of Xebec. “With this important order, we look forward to helping bring this CO2 pipeline to fruition and playing our continued part in the global energy transition.”
The compression equipment will be manufactured at Xebec Systems USA’s (formerly UECompression) Colorado facility. The reciprocating compression packages are expected to be completed by the end of Q3 2023.
Xebec is a global provider of clean energy solutions for renewable and low carbon gases used in energy, mobility, and industrial applications. The company specializes in deploying a portfolio of proprietary technologies for the distributed production of hydrogen, renewable natural gas, oxygen, and nitrogen. Headquartered in Québec, Canada, Xebec has a worldwide presence with nine manufacturing facilities, seventeen Cleantech Service Centers, and four sales offices spanning over four continents.
In November 2021, Xebec acquired Colorado-based UECompression, a designer and builder of custom air and gas compressor solutions for power generation, industrial, and energy applications. The acquisition of UEC expanded Xebec’s production capacity for standardized RNG systems and added six states to its service network (Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska), increasing local service and support as the demand for standardized RNG and hydrogen systems accelerates.
