RIX Industries (RIX) has expanded its 2PS Series compressor lineup. Targeting small-scale cylinder filling applications, the new low-flow 2PS Series compressor is a 2-stage, high-pressure, oil-free, reciprocating piston compressor that takes low pressure oxygen, typically generated through a concentrator at 30 psi (2 bar), and compresses it across two stages to a final pressure of 2200 psi (152 bar). It can fill up to four 240-scf (6.7 m3) 2200 psi cylinders in a 24-hour period.
“RIX’s new lower capacity 2PS compressor addresses underserved and unserved markets – leveling the playing field for smaller-scale applications in which typical larger cylinder filling systems don’t make sense,” said Doug Richmond, sales manager, RIX Industries. “This new compressor adds a new low flow option to our highly successful 2PS product line. It offers a compact, reliable, and cost-effective means for small-scale, high-pressure cylinder filling. With RIX low flow 2PS Series compressors, users simply refill cylinders onsite, making this compressor a much more viable alternative to purchasing costly cylinders that require support from third-party resources.
“The RIX low flow 2PS Series compressor builds upon the heritage of our extremely robust 2PS compressor and shares many similarities,” continued Richmond. “RIX built several test assets to confirm performance. We also field-tested multiple units to verify this new product would meet our customers’ needs and exceed their expectations.”
RIX Industries’ 2PS Series compressors are designed for continuous operation and delivery of high-pressure oxygen as well as other clean, dry gases up to 2200 psi (152 bar), or optionally up to 3000 psi (207 bar). The 2PS Series uses two oil-free, single-acting opposing cylinders on a vertically designed crankcase. Heat exchangers, crankcase, and compression cylinders are air cooled for ease of service and installation. A free-floating second stage piston design allows for easy removal and replacement of both piston and ring without removal of cylinder or piston rod. The ring life of the high-pressure stage is expected to exceed 2000 hours, according to RIX.
Headquartered in Benicia, California, RIX specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of gas generation systems, precision compressor solutions, and cryogenic cooling technologies for critical applications in energy, industrial, marine, and other markets.
RIX offers a compressor portfolio that ranges from 0.5 to 500 hp (0.3 to 373 kW) for air and up to 6000 psi (413 bar) for gases. Its products include compact, power-dense, lightweight aerospace compressors, low pressure and high flow water-flooded screw compressors, and medium- and high-pressure reciprocating piston compressors.
“Our compressors build on our proven expertise in oil-free design and can be customized to specific application requirements,” said Richmond. “Features such as number of stages, piston diameter, ring material, compressor speed, and cooling type (air- or water-cooled) are optimized for process conditions and operating environments.”
