Boardwalk Storage Company LLC (Boardwalk) has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its BSC Compression Replacement (BSC) project. The project includes the abandonment by replacement of an existing inoperable electric-driven 10,000 hp (7460-hp) compressor (Unit 1) and certain auxiliary equipment. The compressor will be replaced with an electric-driven 9000-hp (6714-kW) compressor and certain auxiliary equipment. The purpose of this project is to improve efficiency and reliability at the Choctaw Compressor Station (Choctaw CS) by adding new primary compression facilities to maintain existing services.
Located in Iberville Parish, Louisiana, Choctaw CS currently consists of two electric-driven compressors. The BSC project will involve the abandonment Unit 1 and placing the second existing electric compressor on standby. One new 9000-hp, skid-mounted, electric motor-driven centrifugal natural gas compressor will be added to the station, along with associated compressor suction and discharge gas piping, one new lube oil cooler, one new variable frequency drive building and cooler, one addition to the existing electrical substation, and two new after-gas air-cooled heat exchanger cooling bays. As a result of the proposed modifications, the certificated horsepower at Choctaw CS will decrease from 20,000 hp (14,920 kW) to 9000 hp.
