Northern Natural Gas Company (Northern) is seeking US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to install and operate additional compression at its Spring Green Compressor Station (Spring Green CS) and 7.4 miles (11.9 km) of branch line looping in Juneau and Sauk counties, Wisconsin, USA.

Northern plans to install an additional electric motor-driven 800 hp (596.8 kW) Ariel JGT4 reciprocating compressor at the Spring Green CS. The unit will tie into station piping connected to Northern’s 12-inch (0.3-m) diameter B-line. The new unit will require a new compressor building; a control building that will house the motor control center, a programmable logic controller, human-machine interface, and uninterruptible power supply; and a unit blowdown silencer. The existing compression at this facility is an 1100 hp (820.6 kW) Ariel JGT4 electric motor-driven reciprocating compressor.

The purpose of the project is to allow Northern to transport an additional 15,180 dekatherms per day to serve markets and meet growing energy demands for industrial, commercial, and residential use that could not be met with previous infrastructure.
