60,000 Compressors In The Making

The ASC system comprises sensors and harnesses that relay operating information to an onboard processor while delivering dozens of data points locally through a digital interface and remotely in the cloud.

With more than 50 years of compressor design and manufacturing expertise and the success of more than 60,000 frames shipped worldwide, Ariel Corporation (Ariel) has set out to change the way compressors are monitored.

Introduced this summer, the Ariel Smart Compressor (ASC) is a compression monitoring, diagnostics, optimization, and management system that creates insight into operational efficiency and pinpoints corrections if needed. Offered on new units and as a retrofit to existing Ariel compressors, the ASC helps monitor the compressor and plans scheduled downtimes.

Partnered with FW Murphy, Ariel developed the ASC about five years ago. Ariel started field testing about two years ago. “The hardware, the sensors, the resistance temperature detectors [RTDs] — everything is designed and tested specifically to work most reliably on an Ariel compressor,” said Kevin Conway, product development manager at Ariel. “We worked with FW Murphy and found reliable, most accessible components and built the ASC system.”
