SIAD Macchine Impianti (SIAD) has installed a re-liquefaction plant and four cryogenic compression packages at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility at Italy’s Port of Ravenna.
Owned by Depositi Italiani GNL – DIG, Edison S.p.A., and Enagás, the 706,293 ft3 (20,000 m3) capacity facility consists of two atmospheric storage tanks for LNG. The LNG is transported by Edison to Ravenna by LNG carriers, transferred and stored in the tanks, and made available for bunkering or to be loaded by tankers and distributed on the mainland at the filling stations.
SIAD’s scope of work included the technology used for the compression and re-liquefaction of the boil off gas (BOG). The re-liquefaction plant developed by SIAD will treat 1.2 tons (1.1 tonnes) per hour of methane, for a total of about 26 tons per day of recondensed gas. SIAD also designed and supplied four BOG compressors, which are oil-free and with ATEX certification for installation in potentially explosive atmospheres. Of these four compressors, two will work at the service of the plant for the re-liquefaction of the evaporated gas and the other two will be involved in managing the BOG during LNG transfer operations from the LNG carrier to the storage facility.
An LNG carrier fueled the plant with LNG in August 2021, allowing tuning activities to be carried out. The plant began operation in October.
