Florida Gas Transmission Co. (FGT) has received a favorable environmental assessment from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its South Louisiana project. The project includes increasing its certificated capacity and throughput at certain compressor stations, and to construct, modify, install, own, operate, and maintain certain compression and auxiliary facilities in St. Landry, East Baton Rouge, and Washington Parishes, Louisiana, and Perry County, Mississippi. The purpose of this project is to expand Florida Power and Light Company’s flow path back into FGT’s Zone 2 pool and provide gas to downstream customers, including power generation and local distribution companies.
Specifically, FGT is uprating two existing natural gas-fired compressor turbine units (Units 7501 and 7502), increasing each from 6500 to 7700 hp (4849 to 5744 kW) at its Compressor Station 7.5 in St. Landry Parish. At Compressor Station 8, FGT will add process cooling units to support the existing gas compressor units. It will also modify existing electrical distribution and communications infrastructure, station piping, and valving. No additional compression will be installed. For Compressor Station 9, FGT will install one new 7700-hp Solar Taurus 60 compressor unit on FGT’s mainline in Washington Parish. At Compressor Station 10, FGT will install one new 15,900-hp (11,861-kW) Solar Mars 100 compressor unit on FGT’s mainline in Perry County.
