Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. (Transco) has received a favorable environmental assessment from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to construct, install, modify, operate, and maintain five compressor stations as part of its Alabama Georgia Connector project. The purpose of the project is to allow Transco to provide an additional 63,800 dekatherms per day of firm transportation service beginning with the 2025/2026 winter heating season.
As part of the project, Transco will re-wheel two existing compressor units at Compressor Station 90 in Marengo County, Alabama, and re-wheel three existing compressor units at Compressor Station 115 in Coweta County, Georgia.
Compressor Station 110 in Randolph County, Alabama, currently includes 15 reciprocating compressor units, two turbine-driven compressor units, and four emergency-use generators. Transco is proposing to modify the two existing turbine compressor units, adding an incremental 3865 hp (2883 kW) by upgrading one Solar Titan 130 compressor package from 20,500 to 23,465 hp (15,293 to 17,504 kW), and upgrading one Solar Mars 100 compressor package from 15,000 to 15,900 hp (11,190 to 11,861 kW).
For Compressor Station 120 in Henry County, Georgia, Transco will replace an existing 12,000-hp (8952-kW) electric motor-driven (EMD) compressor unit with a 22,500-hp (16,785-kW) EMD compressor unit and associated equipment.
Transco plans to increase the certificated station horsepower from 49,800 to 55,800 hp (37,151 to 41,627 kW) at Compressor Station 125 in Walton County, Georgia. It will increase the current horsepower of the existing EMD compressor from 9000 to 15,000 hp (6714 to 11,190 kW) and perform an associated re-wheel.
