Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. LLC (Tennessee) has requested FERC authorization to increase the certificated horsepower at its existing Compressor Station 245 (CS 245) in Herkimer County, New York, and abandon in place compressor units 3A, 4A, and 5A. The project will allow Tennessee to increase the station’s certificated from 8219 hp (6131 kW) to 11,107 hp (8285 kW) to meet its firm obligations to shippers and to abandon redundant units that have become operationally obsolete.
CS 245 was placed in service in 1952 and currently consists of six active and three retired compressor units. Tennessee wishes to abandon in place units 3A, 4A, and 5A, which were retired from active service and maintained as redundant units in 2015. The units proposed for abandonment are Worthington UTC reciprocating compressor units rated at 1400 hp (1044 kW) each, which were installed in 1952. The continued operation of the remaining compressor units at CS 245, including the proposed operation of Unit 1C at its full capability, will allow Tennessee to continue to meet its contractual obligations.
Following the proposed abonnement, CS 245 still will include two 1400 hp Worthington UTC compressors, one 2100 hp (1566 kW) Clark unit, two Caterpillar powered 3550 hp (2648 kW) compressor packages, and one Solar Taurus 70 compressor unit rated 8219 hp (6131 kW).
