Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage Inc. (EGTS) is seeking US Federal Regulatory Commission authorization to construct, operate, and maintain interstate natural gas pipeline facilities located in Clinton, Centre, and Franklin Counties, Pennsylvania; and Loudoun County, Virginia. The proposed Capital Area Project will enable EGTS to deliver an additional 67,500 Dth/d of natural gas. The project will provide an additional 67,500 Dth/d of firm transportation service to Washington Gas Light Company from the Leidy area in Pennsylvania to points in Maryland and Virginia. According to EGTS, the US$171 million project will benefit a market region that currently lacks adequate, reliable capacity on peak days by providing access to additional natural gas.
The proposed project includes modifications to four compressor stations.
Centre Compressor Station
EGTS will install one new 6130 hp (4572 kW) gas-fired turbine compressor unit with discharge cooler, intake, exhaust, and lube oil cooler; extend the existing compressor building to accommodate the new compressor unit and house all three compression units; install new motor control and power distribution center (MCC/PDC) building; and install ancillary piping, valves, and electrical within the existing station fence.
Chambersburg Compressor Station
EGTS will install one new 11,110 hp (8288 kW) gas-fired turbine compressor unit within a new compressor building with discharge cooler, intake, exhaust, and lube oil cooler adjacent to the existing station site; install one new MCC/PDC building; install ancillary piping, valves, and electrical adjacent to the existing facility; install a new fence and gravel around the new facilities; and Install a new drum storage building and a new fuel/utility gas building.
Leesburg Compressor Station
EGTS will install one new 5000 hp (3730 kW) electric-driven compressor unit within a new compressor building and discharge cooler within the existing station boundary; replace the existing drum storage building where the new compressor building will be installed with a new drum storage building within the existing station boundary; install one new MCC/PDC building; install new power feed from the existing transmission line at the intersection of Watson Road and Consolidated Lane; and install ancillary piping, valves, and electrical within the existing facility.
Finnefrock Compressor Station
EGTS will replace gas coolers and headers for coolers 1 and 2; install cold recycle piping for units 7 and 8; excavate, sand blast, and recoat the unit 7 discharge piping with high temperature coating; and install new check valves and miscellaneous automation.
